David Lloyd Leeds Grade 5 25 November

There were 4 events planned for the day all with big waiting lists. I am trying to give you all a chance to play so have added lots of new events so check them out.

In the week before the event unfortunately the bubble at David Lloyd collapsed and tore due to a power surge shutting down the fans. We tried to fix it in time but this was not possible due to high winds. Two events were planned for the bubble the girls and boys 12 and under. To avoid disappointing all the entrants I decided to move the event to Chapel Allerton outside all weather courts and spent a long time getting all this organised and for many with new start times.

Unfortunately it rained then snowed overnight (which was not originally forecast) followed by a heavy frost. The courts were frozen when I arrived as well as having a sprinkling of snow. I called in some help and after a massive amount of effort we were able to clear enough courts to complete the tournaments. Unfortunately this meant we ran late. Apologies for this but we did all we could.

The results of the tournaments are as follows

Girls 12U winner Cheyenne Fee runner up Isabella Moss

Boys 12U winner George Burkin runner up Gursharanram Pravinkumar

Boys 14U winner Adam Singleton runner up Joseph Mazingham Consolation winner Samuel Earley

Robert Healy playing in his first tournament in a long while showed his class winning through a tough draw to beat Leo Van in the final. This despite Leo being promised a new Xbox if he had won – by his parents not me!

David Lloyd Grade 5 4 November

There were three tournaments on the day with a mini orange, 14 and under boys and a men’s tournament.

There were 20 entrants in 4 groups of 5 in the mini orange with the top two in each group going through to the quarter finals. Two of the groups were particularly close with players having the same number of wins and who went through was decided on percentage of points won. The eventual winner was Jay Wheeler and runner up Ezra Massey in a very close final.

The 14 and under boys tournament was played in the bubble and Elliot Massey came through to win with Adam Luke the runner up.

In the men’s event Joshua Crossley came out on top in the match with Jude Dixon. Joshua travelled all the way from Ipswich to compete and made it his second grade 5 win at David Lloyd.
