Chapel Allerton Grade 5 29 July 2018

The long hot Summer finally came to an end with thunderstorms and heavy rain but it all cleared just in time for the latest tournament at Chapel A. As usual at this venue even after the heavy rain all the water had drained away and the courts played well. There were two events 12U girls and boys with a bigger entry for the girls than boys which was great.

The girls final was between top seed Eluned Owen and Misbah Ahmed with Eluned coming through 5-4(5) 4-0 in the final.

In the boys event top seed Joshua Fowler came out on top 4-2 4-0 against second seed Finlay Lennon.

Chapel Allerton Grade 4 & 5 30 June 2018

What a fantastic day both for weather and the quality of tennis being played. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed off court, with parents and players watching from the balcony or the tennis pavilion, but competitive and fair on court. That’s exactly how we like our tournaments to be thanks to everyone.

All types of courts were used with most of the boys asking to play their doubles games on grass in front of the packed balcony.

We started with the 14U boys grade 5 event. There was a big entry of 20 in a 32 draw with main draw and consolation. Extra ratings games were arranged for those who went out early and wanted them. James Dyer seeded 8 came though four rounds to win 4-3(3) 4-1 against Thomas Level who was the 4th seed.

The consolation winner was regular Savinien Biock the top seed who came through the draw to beat James Cai 4-1 4-2 in the final after a shock defeat to Australian player Sebastian Huggins in the first round.

The second event of the day was the 16U boys doubles with some great matches and rallies. There were 9 entries so to fit them all in we had 3 box leagues with the first two in each group going on to the knockout stage. The eventual victors were Adam and Scott Hillerby winning 4-2 4-1 against Edward Appleyard and Thomas Linley in an entertaining match.
