Glorious weather all day as the West Yorkshire Adult Series came to Roundhay Tennis Club.
In the women’s Final Lucy Margeston from Huddersfield was the winner over Claire Morris from Chapel Allerton .
In the Men’s Chris Harper fought off the efforts of teenage prospect and hard hitting Arun Bahia to add to his titles in Ikley and Huddersfield.
Jonathan Kay triumphed in the A in his first LTA compass tournament. With Oliver Mason Winning the B. Both winning in epic championship tiebreaks against seasoned pros Chris Harper & Steven Bannister respectively.
There was a full day of tournaments using Chapel Allerton’s indoor and outdoor courts and finishing under floodlights. What a great day.
It started with the under 8’s on Chapel Allerton’s excellent indoor courts with Steise beating Jack Wilson in a gripping under 8s final saving two match points to win 11-9 after both winning their groups.
In the women’s Laura Morris dominated the whole field to show she is a an all rounder in racketsports after her recent racketball exploits. She beat young Pryanka in the final for the loss of just 2 games.
In the Men’s A Final it was the battle of the Rawdon boys with William Newby beating Charlie Pollard 4-2 4-2 after earlier winning 4-1 4-0 against Bradley Keith and ending his dreams of a first title he had hoped for.
In the Men’s B Final Liam Hall triumphed against Phillip from Grimsby who had beaten two juniors to reach the final. Liam had to win two championship tiebreaks to make the final.
Leeds & North England Tennis Series, Tournament 2 – Chapel Allerton
Well done to all 16 players in Chapel A Grade 5 today tournament 2 of the Leeds & North of England series the top 4 seeds finished in order of seeding on Chapel Allertons famous grass courts. The champion was Steve Shipley 4.2 beating Arun Bahia 4.2 4-3 4-0 in the final. Both had survived scares getting to the final Steve v Adam Hamilton & Arun v Martin Beecroft in a mach of tiebreakers.
Leeds and North of England Series, Tournament 1 – Thorner
Well played to all the players in Thorner Grade 5 held on June 10th and won by John Fredrick Booth winner of the first ever Leeds & North of England series event. John Fredrick Booth 4.2 had to come through two grueling championship tiebreaks to make the final before being crowned champion defeating Arun Bahia in the final. He showed all the fighting qualities and skill to make him a deserving first winner in the series. The top 8 players throughout the year will play for the end of year series trophy.
